things i learned this weekend...

esmé broke a bit on saturday afternoon. she's fine. she's fine. she's fine.

uncle sugar diagnosed her as such straight away. kar, she's fine. i took her to emergency anyway.

i didn't believe him. we grew up in very different childhoods. mine was allergy shots and inside and maybe one or two scraped knees. his was rather bloody. he had a cauliflower ear operation, and his mom had him back at school before lunch. i'd have a cold, and my mom would keep me home for a week and a half. my sister used to sing me to sleep. away in a manger, even in june. uncle sugar's brother peeped on him in the shower.

but, in the end, he was right. she is fine.

those girlies three, though. man, they are glued together. lillie and grae couldn't breathe until esmé came back to them.

when the emergency doctor left the room, esmé looked at me with relieved, sleepy little blues and her scratched up, swollen up little bug nose.

good thing i'm not bwoke. she said. lillie and gracie would kill me if i bwoke.

close. but not quite. esmé? they would die if you bwoke.

littlefly. literary jewels by jeremy may. as seen first on daily poetics.

wow, that's so sweet. those sisters three are tight.

i think my upbringing was more like uncle's, and i think i'm doing the same with the ferals. I always tell them to be brave and go to school "at least till 10". sure enough 10.05 - the school nurse calls.

usually if its nothing they're having too much fun to leave during morning play time!

hope ésme feels bwetter soon.

bless your hearts, a tough weekend, definately. and especially lillie and grae...ugh. a couple of years ago my sis was in a car wreck. rushing to the ER, i was there when they rolled her in on a stretcher, strapped into a backboard and blood on her face. in that instant...i died a little bit. could not breathe at all until i was able to go back there and talk to her, make sure she was okay. and even then...even now just thinking about it, i can't breathe.

no, there is nothing in all this world like the bond of a sister. they burrow into your soul and you share a heart.

So heartbreakingly sweet....thank goodness she is okay. Your girlies three are amazing...and what an amazing mama they have. My childhood was like Uncle Sugar's too....I got hurt A LOT but, my mom's reaction was like your mom's. Keeping me home for a week....:)

sometimes i wish i had been a little kid that scraped up a bit more. but i wasn't that kid. i worry that one day, when i have kids, and something big and bad happens, i'll just pass out.

i'm so glad esme's ok.

Oh, my heart. My heart!

My three boys are the same. One night we put the two little ones to bed early to let the oldest (6) stay up late. He wandered from room to room until I asked him what was up. He said, "I don't know. I'm just lonely, I guess."

Love.
