cashaça...

because i had to post something green. meet my summer drink.

he's called caipirinha. vogue introduced us in february. i must admit that i fell in love with mister caipirinha despite some of the phrases jeffrey steingarten used to describe his reputation among upper-esch brazilians: crudely lower-class, local hooch.

wait. i think i fell in love because...

anyway. listen to the ingredients: two ounces cashaça {pronounced cah-sha-sah. try it. sexy, yes?} and lots of sugar and lime.

so. let the summer lists begin. favorite drink for the sunshine? do tell.

p.s. we need cabana boys, don't we?

LOVE this stuff. when i was living/interning in chicago 2 of my roommates were from brazil and introduced us to one another. super versatile, which is a MUST for any reoccurring cocktail in my life!

The caipirinha is one of my favs! I just heard Martha tell of a Honey Dew Melon Mojito that will be made in my house this summer! It is made with cucumbers, lime, and mint muddled, topped with the juice of a honeydew, club soda and rum...hello refreshing. That Martha, what a lush, who knew!?

love the look of your new drink. i wish i liked such exotic things...or really alcohol at all. but i decided to trade my tipsy beverages in for sweet indulgences a long time ago. so my drink of choice this summer? probably the milkshake.

looks yummy and sounds fantastic :)

My all time favorite summer drink is a Pimm's No.1 cup. it's amazing! You must try it and don't forget the fresh mint!

I still love the Lillet that (I believe) Joslyn posted about ages ago. I drink it just by itself over some ice. Or with a half of an orange squeezed in too and a couple of thin orange slices. Anyway you drink it is fine, the stuff is fabulous. And is it bad I'm counting down the weeks until I'm not pregnant and can have some? Oh August!

there is a little mexican joint on our university square that we love to go to in the summer. you sit outside in this garden full of twinkly lights and water misters. the food is greasy and wonderful. but the best part? they have my favorite drink...a slushy delightful mix of margarita and sangria. it's perfection.

i'm nearly O.D.'d on summer down here - but i'll give it another whirl. Just for you. And the cabana boys.

Full endrosement of the drink with the sexy name! I have a soft spot for gimlets, but that sounds a bit more Queen Mother-ish (not so sexy).

I love the way Portuguese sounds... One of my favorite languages to listen to... And the green drink? Yes - I'll take one. By the pool. Along with the cabana boys - who will be bringing refills, no?

Oh, what fun!

xoox,

Oh this is near and dear to me. The summer I got married, my husband's cousin spent an entire year in Brazil. He came back just in time to introduce us this lovely drink and we indulged ourselves a lot that year. My favorite is the sugary brim...heaven. Haven't had one since that summer because I've been pregs or BFing nonstop since then but perhaps soon =)

ps. @Kelly and Kelly do you have a link for the Lillet drink?

Love the caipirinha. My very favorite, though, is a variation of the classic mojito dubbed "Faith's Fatal Faux-jito."

Here's a link to the recipe: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2010/02/good-taste-oronoco-rum.html
